15 people shot, 3 killed from Friday night into Saturday in Chicago

Police reported three people killed and another 12 injured in gun-related incidents across Chicago from Friday night into Saturday morning as the holiday weekend got underway.

Officials said the latest shooting death occurred just past midnight Saturday on the Southwest Side of the city.

Officers responding to reports of gunfire in the Brighton Park neighborhood arrived to discover a 27-year-old man with gunshot wounds to the head and abdomen, according to Fox New32.

Authorities said the male victim was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:25 a.m., The Cook County medical examiner’s office have not released his name as of Saturday morning pending notification of next of kin.

One hour prior, two men were gunned down as they walked out of a home in the West Side Austin neighborhood.

One victim identified as Derrick Jones was shot multiple times and pronounced dead at the scene at 11:19 p.m.

Paramedics rushed the second victim, Stephen Tucker to Mount Sinai Hospital with wounds to the head and back, where he later died.

Officials told the local Fox News affiliate that investigators believe the shooting deaths to be gang-related.

In total, police reported the 15 people shot in various neighborhoods starting from 6:30 p.m. on Friday evening. The most recent non-fatal incident occurring around 4:50 a.m. on Saturday in the Washington Park neighborhood after a 26-year-old man, was taken to Stronger Hospital with gunshot wounds to the shoulder and buttocks. He remains in stable condition.

Last year, the Chicago Police Department recorded a total of 30 people shot with six fatalities over the holiday weekend.
