ASSOCIATED PRESS — Police have arrested a man they say opened fire on a packed nightclub, in Mount Vernon, New York killing the establishment’s owner and one other person, wounding five others.

Authorities say the suspect may have been ejected from the club shortly before the 4:26 a.m. shooting on Christmas Day.

Mount Vernon Police Capt. Edward Adinaro says Mansion nightclub owner O’Neal Bandoo and the other victim, who hasn’t been identified, were killed in the shooting.

Police found the deceased together with victims whose injuries were not considered life-threatening, in the lobby and on the street outside the club.

“I’ve never seen anything like this on Christmas Day,” said Adinaro. “It appears he may have been ejected from the club. I don’t know what led to the ejection.”

Police didn’t name the suspect but said he is a 36-year-old Bronx resident with a pending attempted murder case.

Witness Cleveland Douse tells Low Hud Newspaper 200 people were in the club during the shooting.

“I just heard shots fired and I run back upstairs,” Douse said. “When I come downstairs I see three men lying on the floor there.”

“It’s sad. It’s a terrible thing,” he added. “After the party is said and done, everybody enjoying themselves.”

Patrick Merchant, Bandoo’s father-in-law said that an altercation inside the club led to the fatal shooting.

“The guy was getting rough inside of the club, so they let him out,” Merchant, of the Bronx, told ABC7. “The guy retaliated and came back and just started shooting on them in the front, just shooting on all of them.”

“Right now my daughter is devastated, he said. “This is the worst Christmas ever.”
