Agents with U.S. Customs and Border Protection assigned to the Mariposa Commercial Facility in Nogales, Arizona recovered $1.2 million in marijuana – weighing over 2,400 pounds – from a Mexican native on Wednesday when he tried to cross into the United States.

Agents working with a narcotics detection K9 discovered the drugs mixed within containers of watermelons in a tractor-trailer driven by a 46-year-old from Nogales, Sonora, Mexico, CBP officials said in a press release.

Law enforcement officials confiscated the entire shipment and referred the suspect to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.

Wednesday’s interception is the second substantial load of pot seized at the Mariposa facility this week alone.

On Tuesday, deputies seized 6,500 pounds of weed discovered in a pallet of strawberry jam, and earlier in December, they also seized 10,000 pounds of marijuana.
