New York City Police launch manhunt for escaped prisoner still in shackles

New York City Police have launched a manhunt after a prisoner — still wearing leg shackles — managed to escape custody from a downtown Manhattan hospital Thursday afternoon.

In a statement, NYPD officials said 31-year-old Daniel Ortiz, escaped around 3:30 p.m. from the Lenox Hill HealthPlex in the Greenwich Village section of Manhattan.

The prisoner was in custody for petit larceny according to WABC-T.V.

According to a photo released by Police, Ortiz, is described as having a “light complexion, brown curly hair, brown eyes, approximately 5’6, and 130 lbs.

He was last seen wearing  dark blue jeans, dark boots, no shirt, a dark-colored pea coat, with leg shackles on one leg, and tucked inside of his boot.

Police said Ortiz is possibly bleeding from the wrist and is “walking with a noticeable limp.”

Officials reported no injuries during the incident.
