Uber driver rescues sex trafficking victim.

A California Uber driver has been credited with rescuing a 16-year-old girl from sex trafficking.

Police in Elk Grove, California said Keith Avila picked up a young woman and two female counterparts in his Uber. Avila soon realized that the companions she was accompanied by weren’t friends — they were pimps.

While the three were passengers in Avila’s car, he overheard an illicit discussion between them that immediately worried him — and he knew he couldn’t turn away. “That wasn’t even an option,” Avila told ABC13.

Avila reported the threesome, and police discovered that the two older women – 31-year-old Maria Westly (left) and 25-year-old Destiny Pettway (right) – were pimping the girl out

“They started like talking, saying everything that was going on. Like what they’re doing, child sex trafficking,” Avila added.

Avila drove them to a Holiday Inn, where the younger passenger was allegedly sent to solicit sex.

After Avila had dropped them off, he contacted authorities, who arrived promptly on the scene.

“They do not play. Not when you’re doing child sex trafficking,” Avila noted.

Destiny Pettway and Maria Westly were then taken into custody on various charges of pimping and pandering. A man, who goes by “Disney Vang,” was arrested for having sex with a minor.

The conversation inside Avila’s vehicle included Pettway and Westly instructing the 16-year-old to “hug them” and “make sure they don’t have weapons.”

Avila said that the suspects warned the girl to “get the donation first,” before performing any sexual acts.

Elk Grove officer Chris Trim stated, “He could’ve said nothing. Went on his way, collected his fare. And then that 16-year-old victim could’ve been victimized again by who knows how many different people over the next couple of days, weeks, months.”
