Florida Authorities have reported five people killed and eight others wounded after a gunman opened fire in Terminal 2 at Ft. Lauderdale International Airport around 1 p.m. on Friday.

The suspect has been subdued and taken into custody the Broward County Sheriff’s Office said on its Twitter account, and Broward County Mayor Barbara Sharief told CNN that police “have an active crime scene investigation underway involving terminal 2.”

However, officials haven’t indicated whether the incident was contained or whether there is an active shooter situation underway.

Florida Senator Bill Nelson (D) said the suspect was identified as Esteban Santiago, Fla. Sen. Bill Nelson told reporters. He said Santiago was carrying a military ID, but did not elaborate on a motive.

Airport officials said in a tweet there was an “ongoing incident” at the baggage claim area and all services are temporarily suspended at Terminal 2.

A disturbing video posted on Twitter shows paramedics outside the airport tending to an injured bleeding victim. One victim suffered a gunshot wound to the head, NBC News Miami reported.

Hundreds of people could be seen standing on the tarmac at Ft. as police tactical units and emergency responders flood the scene.

“I was dodging bullets and trying to help people get out of the way,” an eyewitness, Mark Lea, told NBC News.

At first we thought it was firecrackers,” he said. “Everyone started screaming and running. The shooter made his way down through baggage claim. He had what looked like a 9mm and emptied his entire clip. People were trying to run.

Ari Fleischer, the former Whitehouse Press Secretary for former President George W. Bush, tweeted that he was at the airport when shots were fired and “everyone is running.”
