Krystle Villanueva, a Texas mother looks to be holding back laughter in her mugshot after she allegedly mutilated and brutally murdered her five-year-old child.

Police say the 24-year-old has been charged with capital murder after she fatally stabbed her daughter, Giovanna Larae Hernandez.

She faces either life behind bars or the death penalty.

The woman also reportedly stabbed her father-in-law, Eustorgio Arellano-Uresti, who tried to stop the murder.

On January 5th, around 11 am, Arellano-Uresti said that he went to make lunch at their home in Texas,

KXAN reported that he saw Villanueva grab a knife and bring it to her bedroom and then he heard his granddaughter screaming in pain.

The man tried to grasp the weapon from Villanueva, and she stabbed him in the back and forehead.

Neighbors said that they saw him leave the residence, with Villanueva running after him with an unloaded shotgun.

Police and the SWAT team were dispatched to the scene and discovered Krystle Villanueva rinsing off in the shower. Giovanna was dead in a bedroom.

Arellano-Uresti said that his daughter-in-law was addicted to drugs, alcohol, and weed, an affidavit revealed. Her sister told police back in 2015 that she attended a local rehab center for substance abuse treatment.

When the SWAT team arrived, Giovanna Larae Hernandez (left) was dead after being stabbed multiple times and Krystle Villanueva (right) was showering off

Sabrine Sifuentez, the suspect’s friend, said: “She went to a rehab. She did a 90-day program and came out good. She was doing good. She had a job. She tried to get help. I don’t know if she just relapsed, I really can’t say what happened.”

The woman has also been charged with a second-degree felony of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

In her Facebook profile, she stated: “The most important things to me in life is family and succeeding in life, but especially my daughter Giovanna La’Rae. I’d do anything in the world for this chick.”

Villanueva remains in the Hays County Jail on a $1.1 million bond.
