A judge handed a witness, who is expected to take the stand at the upcoming double murder trial of former NFL star-turned-convicted killer Aaron Hernandez, a five-year prison-term for his role in a 2014 shooting at a Connecticut bar.

Alexander Bradley was sentenced Monday in Hartford criminal court for illegally possessing a firearm and reckless endangerment, The Hartford Courant reports.

According to the police report, Bradley opened fire at the bar shortly after he was shot.

During the hearing, Bradley told the judge he had endured some traumatic events, but maintained he isn’t the same person he was back when the incident occurred.

Bradley testified during Hernandez’s first murder trial, for the 2013 killing of Odin Lloyd who at the time was dating the sister of Hernandez’s fiancee.

Hernadez was eventually found guilty and sentenced to life-in-prison in April 2015.

Prosecutors say Bradley witnessed Aaron Hernandez fatally shoot two men in a 2012 drive by following an altercation in a downtown Boston nightclub.

Additionally, Bradley accused Hernandez of shooting him in the face in Florida in 2013, to silence him from talking to police about the double homicide.

The upcoming trial for Hernandez, who has pleaded not guilty, is slated to begin in February.
