When porn star Christy Mack met infamous MMA fighter Jonathan “War Machine” Koppenhaver on a photo shoot back in 2013, sparks erupted between the couple.

The beautiful cheerleader-turned-porn star was experiencing a nasty period of pneumonia at the time, and Koppenhaver offered to come to her hotel room to help take care of her.

That night, they conversed for hours over pizza and Mack, whose name is Christine Mackinday, was intrigued.

“It was an amazing connection,” she said in 2015. “I fell in love quick.”

The couple started a passionate love affair which led Mackinday to get a tattoo that said: “Property of War Machine.”

However, things took a turn for the worst.

“He became abusive about four to five months in, by that time I was in love with him, so, so in love,” Mackinday said in an interview with ESPN.

“The first time I thought, ‘Oh, it’ll never happen again.’ The day after, he stayed home and cuddled me. After every time he would hit me, those were the best days of our relationship,” she added.

In August 2014, Koppenhaver reportedly assaulted Mackinday, and her friend Corey Thomas, so brutally that he almost murdered them.

A police report indicated that Koppenhaver broke into Mackinday’s home in Las Vegas and accused her of cheating with Thomas, The Las Vegas Journal reported.

Koppenhaver then purportedly punched and choked Thomas for close to 10 minutes before forcing him to leave and threatening him not to contact authorities.

Mackinday ended up calling 911 while Thomas was being attacked and hid the phone, according to the report.

Once Thomas left, officials allege Koppenhaver turned on Mackinday, repeatedly hitting her as she ran into a bathroom and then he forced her to take a shower.

War Machine then beat her so ferociously that it left Mackinday with a fracture of her left eye, several broken bones in her face, two missing teeth, broken ribs, a lacerated liver, and severe bruising in several places.

She later posted shocking pictures of the aftermath on social media.

Koppenhaver is scheduled to go to trial next month after rejecting a plea deal following months of delays and legal wrangling.

Jonathan Paul Koppenhaver, AKA War Machine, and Christine Mackinday, AKA Christy Mack, appear in court for a preliminary hearing in Las Vegas.

War Machine is facing 35 felony charges — including two counts of attempted murder and five counts of sexual assault — stemming from accusations spanning back to May 2013.

Proceedings are likely to get even more complex after a court decision was ruled to allow evidence that Mackinday presented a rape fantasy to Koppenhaver before he sexually assaulted and beat her.

The 34-year-old is already serving 18-months-to-four-year behind bars for infringing on his probation terms in a prior assault case and faces life in jail if he is found guilty at trial.

Koppenhaver’s attorney, Brandon Sua, had asked Mack on the stand: “Do you ever recall stating to Koppenhaver that ‘real men rape’?”

“That was a joke between us,” she responded.

When the lawyer asked Mack to elaborate, she replied: “That was a pretty common slogan for him to say, and yes, I would repeat it back to him.”

Sua then inquired whether the two ever carried out those fantasies.

“I did ask him to play out a rape fantasy one time, but it never came to fruition,” she said.

She referred to the rape fantasy as “role play” and a “fetish” in which a “very specific set of guidelines and rules would be set and laid out before the acts are done, for safety reasons and consent reasons.

“I wouldn’t want an actual rape to happen,” she added.

The trial is scheduled to begin on February 27th.
