Authorities in Florida say a man allegedly tried to cover up the murder of his wife by posing as the woman on updated posts using her Facebook account to assure concerned family members that she was alive.

Orlando police officials arrested 42-year-old George Joseph McShane at his home on Tuesday.

According to a police report, officers discovered McShane inside his running SUV, with the garage doors closed, attempting to commit suicide.

Cops found the strangled body of his wife, Kristen McShane in the couple’s bed, covered with a comforter, the Orlando Sentinel reported.

After removing McShane from the SUV, he told investigators he posted on his wife’s Facebook account that she had dropped her phone in the toilet, so not to worry family and friends if she failed to respond to their calls.

Concerned family members contacted police after Kristen stopped answering phone calls and text messages.

“I can’t believe I dropped my phone in the toilet. I’m such an idiot. Message me here, til I can get it fixed,” the post dated January 7th read.

The report states that McShane also told detectives he messaged her family and friends, to convince them that she was still alive.

McShane remained in the custody of the Orange County Jail on second-degree murder and domestic battery by strangulation charges.

Court records don’t indicate if an attorney represents McShane.
