A Guatemalan national has been imprisoned for the rest of his life for raping and impregnating a 10-year-old girl.

Last Friday, Rony Otoniel Mendez was sentenced to lift without parole in Tampa, Florida, for repeatedly assaulting the girl in her mother’s room between 2013 and 2014.

The abuse started when she was only nine and was exposed when doctors found out she was pregnant during a hospital visit.

A DNA test later revealed Mendez was the baby’s father.

The 26-year-old was extradited to the United States in 2016 after he fled to his native country ofGuatemala when he thought he was going to be arrested.

Guatemalan national was found guilty of three sexual battery charges and one charge of lewd and lascivious molestation of a child under and was hit with three life sentences without parole.

The suspect was 23 when he first abused the child when he fondled her breasts through her clothes back in 2013, The Ledger reported.

On three different occasions the next year, he raped her in her mother’s room while she was working.

Polk County Sheriff’s Office announced last year that he told the child not to say anything about the abuse because they would both get in trouble.

The girl’s mom brought her to the hospital in 2014 when she was worried that her daughter kept vomiting. She initially thought that the symptoms were caused by recent vaccinations.

Doctors examined the child’s urine as part of a routine check-up and realized she was pregnant. The girl originally denied having been raped despite her mother’s suspicion.

Before authorities could catch him, Mendez fled the U.S. after the girl’s mother confronted him on the phone.

He even went to their house to pick up some of his belongings before he fled. After he left the country, the girl confessed that she was abused.

Mendez was apprehended by the FBI in Guatemala in April and was extradited back to Florida.

His attorney, public defender Marlisa DeMond, tried to undermine the girl’s account of events.

She said that the girl was “encouraged” by authorities to provide details of the sexual abuse and that her version of events was contradictory.

A jury took less than two hours to find the sexual predator guilty.
