A 23-year-old mother-of-three from Canada has been thrown behind bars after she reportedly had sex with a 15-year-old in the bathroom on a cruise in the Bahamas.

Karine Gagne was aboard the Norwegian Cruise Line with her co-workers when she met the teen at a bar/casino area on the ship.

Shortly after meeting the young male, who was reportedly a 6ft 1in American with a beard, the woman had sex with him in a bathroom.

The teen’s mom was at the bar when she noticed her son exit the bathroom with Gagne and immediately contacted authorities, CTV Montreal reported.

According to Bahamian law, a 15-year-old cannot legally consent to sexual intercourse.

The woman was taken into custody on January 5th and was charged with the sexual assault of a minor.

She has remained in custody in the Bahamas for the last two weeks.

Chantale Auclair, Gagne’s mother, said the teen lied to her daughter about his real age.

“She asked him how old he was and he said he was 18,” she told The Canadian Press.

Canadian mother-of-three Karine Gagne, 23, allegedly had sex in the bathroom with a 15-year-old American teen on a Bahamas cruise

Auclair said her daughter mentioned that the pair had met at the bar while the ship was anchored in Great Stirrup Cay. They began to talk and danced together.

“At one point, it went further,” Auclair added. “They went to the bathroom, and they did what they wanted to do.”

Gagne was on the ship with her co-workers and boss to celebrate reaching sales goals at their company.

The teen reportedly pleaded for his mother not to report Gagne to police.

Auclair went to the Bahamas to see her daughter and revealed that they were only able to speak for about an hour.

The mother of three now faces seven years behind bars for sex with the underage teen

“I cried, I cried so much. But I told her I didn’t come for nothing, that we weren’t close for nothing. She is more than my daughter; she is my confidante,” she said.

The suspect’s daughter is anxious about her daughters, who range in ages from 3-5 are currently back in Quebec.

“She said, ‘Mom, I don’t want them to think I abandoned them,'” Auclair added.

Gagne’s mother is now raising money to cover legal costs, possible bail, and a plane ticket home for her daughter.

She also noted that the teen was reportedly drinking in an area reserved for those aged 18 and up on the ship.

“I’m not blaming anyone,” Auclair continued. “I just want her to get out of there.”

If convicted, the woman could face up to seven years behind bars.
