Mexico drug kingpin Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán appears to be bigger than Beatles right now after receiving a rock star’s welcome at a Manhattan jail on Thursday night — as a crowd of female prisoners chanted his name as his 13-car convoy arrived.

A reporter for the New York Post said female jailbirds at Manhattan’s Metropolitan Detention Center (MCC) could be heard in the cell block facing Pearl Street in downtown New York City passionately shouting “Chapo! Chapo!” as the druglord’s 13-car motorcade arrived at the facility late Thursday night.

The Mexican drug cartel boss, who was extradited from his home country of Mexico to face charges in the U.S., arrived at a Long Island airport at approximately 10 p.m. and was escorted into New York City under heavy security provided by federal law enforcement agents and the New York City Police Department.

‘El Chapo,’ which means’Shorty’ in English, made his first landmark appearance in Brooklyn Federal Court on Friday, where he pleaded not guilty to a 17-count indictment.

Justice Department prosecutors accuse him of leading a multi-billion dollar criminal enterprise that imported multi-ton quantities of cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, and marijuana into the United States on a yearly basis for over two decades.

The U.S. government intends to see Guzmán imprisoned for life and also seeks a $14 billion dollar forfeiture.
