Former boxing superstar and current CEO of Golden Boy Promotions Oscar De La Hoya was arrested for a DUI early Wednesday morning in Pasadena. California after he failed a field sobriety test during a traffic stop, the gossip website TMZ reported.

Stephan Brandt, a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol, says De La Hoya, was pulled over for speeding in his Landrover around 2 a.m. Tuesday.

Brandt said the officer detected a strong smell of alcohol emanating from the vehicle and administered De La Hoya several field sobriety tests which he failed and taken into custody.

The former Olympic gold medal winner was later released into the custody of his manager.

De La Hoya had previously sought treatment for alcohol and substance abuse on two occasions in 2011 and in 2013, just days before his most prized fighter Canelo Alvarez was to face off with Floyd Mayweather.

The 43-year-old ten-time world champion in six different weight classes was reportedly seen drinking at local bars in the area earlier in the night and even posed for a photo with a fan at Barney’s Beanery in Old Town, Pasadena.

Stefan Friedman, the spokesman for Golden Boy, refused to comment on Oscar De La Hoya’s arrest.
