For the second day in a row, Mexican authorities have killed another senior cartel figure within the Beltran Leyva Organization (BLO) during stepped-up military operations in the state of Nayarit against the criminal organization.

Law enforcement officials said an operation in the city of Tepicalias resulted in the death Daniel Isaac Silva Gárate, also known as “El H9”, a leader of the Beltrán Leyva cartel on Friday night, Proceso reported.

Silva Gárate was reportedly killed in a gun battle after Marines, assisted by the federal police, intercepted the vehicle he was traveling in, in the small town of El Ahuacate.

The death of H-19 is the latest in a series of devastating blows inflicted by the naval marines against the leadership of the Beltran Leyva cartel.

On Thursday, Juan Francisco “H-2” Padron Sanchez, a powerful leader of the criminal organization, and at least seven of his henchmen were killed by a military attack helicopter during a shootout with the Mexican Navy.

A total of 16 BLO members were killed during military operations over a 24-hour period earlier this week

Padron Sanchez led the cartel’s operations in Nayarit and southern Jalisco. Senior law enforcement officials told JammedUp News that H-2 was the second highest ranking member in the BLO next to Fausto “Chapo” Isidro Meza Flores, the former right-hand man of Hector Beltran Leyva.

Meza Flores, who leads a group called Los Mazatlecos based in Sinaloa, assumed to the top position of the BLO along with Padron Sanchez after the 2014 arrest of Hector Beltran Leyva.

Authorities also recently arrested Alfredo Beltran Guzman, the nephew of Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman and son of Alfredo Beltran Leyva in Zapopan, Jalisco in December.

Military officials cited intelligence indicating that Meza Flores, Padron Sanchez, and Beltran-Guzman were allegedly responsible for facilitating a violent turf war, which erupted last year in the mountains of Sinaloa against the Sinaloa cartel.

The criminal band was also reportedly responsible for ransacking the home of El Chapo’s mother during a violent incursion into Guzman’s hometown of La Tuna, in the municipality of Badirgurato, last June.

Moreover, in an interview with Mexico’s Radio Formula, journalist Omar Sánchez de Tagle said that military sources indicated that Padron Sanchez had not only participated but also helped plan the deadly ambush on a military convoy on September 30th in Culiacan, Sinaloa, which resulted in the deaths of six Mexican soldiers.

In total, Mexican forces killed at least 16 members of the BLO during operations lasting from Thursday evening to Friday night.
