Police in California have confirmed two adults killed and two students wounded in an apparent murder-suicide shooting on Monday at a San Bernardino elementary school.

San Bernadino Fire spokesman Eric Sherwin said the shooting was reported early Monday morning at North Park Elementary school.

Authorities placed the school on lockdown until further notice after multiple gunshot victims were reported at the campus.

According to ABC7, four people, including a teacher and the shooter were among the victims at the campus. Two students remain hospitalized.

San Bernardino Police chief wrote on the shooting occurred inside the classroom in what investigators are calling an apparent murder-suicide.

Maria Garcia of the San Bernardino PD told local media affiliates the threat at the campus has been contained.

As a precautionary measure, police placed nearby schools including Hillside Elementary School and Cajon High School on lockdown.
