Authorities in Arizona say former NFL player Todd Heap was behind the wheel of a truck that tragically struck and killed his 3-year-daughter in the driveway of their suburban Phoenix home.
Police said the tragic accident occurred Friday afternoon around 3:45 p.m. at the home of the former Baltimore Ravens player, located in the Las Sendas area in northeast Mesa.
The Arizona Republic cited law enforcement officials who said Todd Heap was behind the wheel of the truck when he accidentally ran over the girl while moving the vehicle forward outside their home.
Police said the girl was rushed to a local area hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
Mesa police officials said all indications suggest there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident and impairment appeared not to be a factor in the accident.
Aside from the Ravens, Heap also played for the Arizona Cardinals over the course of his NFL career. He was drafted out of Arizona State University, where he was a two-time All-Pac-10 selection.
