A suspect was apprehended in the murder of, Vanessa Marcotte, the Google executive from New York – who played a primary role in the capture of her own killer, according to authorities in Massachusetts.

Angelo Colon Ortiz, a 31-year-old resident of Worcester, was taken into custody on Friday after his DNA matched that recovered from the hands of the victim

“Good afternoon, we got him,” Worcester District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. told journalists to the cheers of witnesses.

After acknowledging a list of law enforcement agencies, Early singled out Marcotte and discussed how she played an essential role in Ortiz’s capture, the New York Post reported.

“There is also one person I’d like to thank in this case, that would be Vanessa Marcotte,” Early stated. “It was through her fight and her efforts that we obtained the DNA of her killer.”

Marcotte was visiting her mother in Princeton, Massachusetts, when she went out for a run on August 7th. Her remains were found hours later in the woods.

The 27-year-old Google executive’s killing occurred just days after the August 2nd murder of Queens jogger Karina Vetrano.

Vetrano, 30, was also out on a run when she disappeared. However, no connections were made between the two slayings.

On February 23rd. Massachusetts law enforcement officials announced that they had recovered DNA of the suspect in Marcotte’s murder — and that it didn’t match Chanel Lewis, the Brooklyn man implicated in Vetrano’s killing.

Early witness accounts indicated that a dark SUV was being driven by a Hispanic male near the scene of the crime.

A state trooper recently noticed an SUV matching that description and the officer wrote the license plate number on his hand, Early revealed.

Investigators eventually found Ortiz, who consented to give a cheek swab which led to his arrest.

Ortiz was charged with aggravated assault and assault with intent to commit rape. His first court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday.
