Authorities in Mexico have apprehended the top financial operator for the ruthless Los Zetas criminal organization during an operation in the border state of Tamaulipas.

Mexican Naval Marine units arrested Jesus Cabriales Camacho, also known as ‘El Inge,’ the presumed financial operator for Los Zetas on April 14th, in the Tamaulipas state capital of Ciudad Victoria.

Officials said Camacho, who was traveling in a White Dodge RAM, attempted to flee authorities but was captured after a brief pursuit, El Universal reported.

The Mexican Attorney General’s Office said the arrest of Camacho was a major blow to the financial structure of Los Zetas

Additionally, Marines secured military-grade automatic weapons from the vehicle and also gathered intelligence on the Zetas financial operations.

Los Zetas was originally formed by ex-special forces soldiers, who quickly became characterized as one of the most bloodthirsty criminal organizations in the country.

In its beginnings, the Zetas were considered the armed wing of the Gulf Cartel, who were devoted not only to the trafficking of drugs, but also kidnapping and torturing of rivals, extortion, and bribing of authorities, in the state of Tamaulipas.

The Zetas were also responsible for┬ádealing with the Gulf Cartel’s arch rivals, the Sinaloa Cartel.
