Video has surfaced showing the funeral procession in Mexico of Francisco Javier Zazueta Rosales, also known as ‘El Pancho Chimal,’ a top assassin and alleged escort of the children of imprisoned drug lord Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán.
Sinaloa Cartel members gave their final farewell to the top operator, who was buried with long bursts of automatic gunfire, blankets showing support, and dozens of crowns in the community of Aguaruto, Culiacan.
Rosales, who was the leader of the armed group of assassins known as Los Chimales, was killed last Friday in a clash with the Mexican Navy in the Tepuche union on the border between Culiacán and Badiraguato, Sinaloa.
Marines secured several high-powered weapons, including a rocket launcher at the scene of the gunbattle.
‘El Pancho Chimal’ had become a target of the Mexican Armed Forces since government officials attributed Rosales to the deadly ambush on a military patrol to rescue a Sinaloa Cartel associate last September, which resulted in the death of five soldier and 10 others wounded.
Rosales was arrested in February, but in March he escaped from a Culiacán prison, along with five other prisoners, including Juan José Esparragoza Monzón, son of Juan José Esparragoza ‘El Azul,’ one of the founders of the Sinaloa cartel.
According to the Culiacan newspaper El Debate, Zazueta Rosales was buried on Monday in Aguaruto.
The newspaper also mentioned that ‘El Chimal’ was tasked with guarding Ismael ‘El Mayo’ Zambada, another one of the founders of the Sinaloa Cartel and compadre of ‘El Chapo’ Guzman.
