Infamous Mexican drug lord Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman is once again in the news — but this time it has no involvement with his upcoming trial or next court appearance on May 5th.

Univision will premier the scripted drama ‘El Chapo’ which portrays a young and ambitious Joaquín Guzmán Loera — when he was a low-ranking drug runner working for the Guadalajara Cartel in 1985 and spanning his rise to power over the next three decades.

In this exclusive first look, we see the man known as El Chapo (Marco de la O) meeting with none other than notorious Colombian drug kingpin Pablo Escobar (Mauricio Mejia).

‘El Chapo’ wants in on Mr. Pablo’s drug trafficking business, so he makes the ‘King of Cocaine’ a risky proposition by guaranteeing he could move a ton of product across the border in 48 hours.

Pablo Escobar agrees, but not before asking this very menacing question: “Chapo, do you know what happens to those that fail me?”

“Si, Don Pablo,” replies Chapo bravely, though it’s clear he appears more than a little nervous.

Two back to back episodes of ‘El Chapo’ will premiere on Univision on April 23rd, with an English-subtitled version to debut on Netflix at a later date.
