A father in Brooklyn, New York attacked a man who fled with his baby on Saturday, trailing the would-be kidnapper down and stabbing him after grabbing back the little boy.

The infant was not hurt in the early-morning incident at an apartment building in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn, but the baby snatcher is reportedly in critical condition.

According to the New York Post, The suspect, who is an acquaintance of the parents known as Andre, had walked into the family’s sixth-floor apartment after getting into a dispute with them in the hallway.

He then grabbed the infant and ran down several flights of stairs to the building’s basement with the 27-year-old father in hot pursuit.

The baby’s father, suspected of stabbing an intruder, is taken into custody by police.

It is not clear why the man took the baby.

A neighbor heard the child’s mother screaming at approximately 4 a.m.

“She was confused she was trying to find the baby,” the neighbor said. “She was frantic and trying to gather her thoughts.”

The neighbor then heard the apartment door swing open and people running and fighting in the stairwell.

“It sounded like someone was fighting for their life,” the neighbor continued, who wished to remain anonymous.

The father grabbed his son out of the man’s arms before pulling out a knife and stabbing him.

The man was rushed to Downstate Medical Center in critical condition. The father was arrested but was not charged as of Saturday afternoon.
