Emergency responders say one person is dead and three others have been taken to a hospital with potentially serious injuries after a stabbing attack on the University of Texas campus.

Austin police say one person is in custody Monday afternoon, The Associated Press reported.

Travis County Emergency Medical Services has tweeted that one person is dead at the scene near the campus’ Gregory gym and three others have been transported.

The stabing suspect was arrested by UT Police

The agency notes there also are reports of additional victims who suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the stabbing attack.

Police said the person they apprehended stabbed at least two people and assaulted one other around 1:46 p.m. local time.

Social media posts described how the suspect had a large knife holder attached to his waist.

The University of Texas is located blocks from downtown Austin and the Texas capitol building and is one of the nation’s largest universities.
