Authorities are on the hunt for a group of men who beat a West African street vendor unconscious in the Bronx, New York, leaving him in critical condition.

Police say the West African street vendor, identified as 53-year-old Souleymane Porgo has been left with life-threatening injuries after five men approached him on Tuesday and viciously assaulted him in an unprovoked attack.

After he fell to the ground the men continued to hit him before they fled.

Police verified on Saturday that two of the men implicated in the incident had been identified as 18-year-old Enrique Foote and 21-year-old William Burgess, but they have not been apprehended. The NYPD is still working to determine the identities of the three other suspects.

The man’s skull was fractured, and his jaw was broken in the assault.

The disturbing incident was captured on cellphone video.

Authorities have also indicated that he suffered bleeding in the brain. He was rushed to Lincoln Hospital where he had surgery Tuesday.

During the surgery, doctors were forced to remove part of his skull to decrease the pressure from swelling and bleeding in his brain; his wife told the New York Daily News.

The assault was recorded on video that was posted to Facebook. In the 20-second footage, the victim is seen falling, with his head banging against the ground.

His wife and two daughters are seen in the video, his wife visibly shocked by her husband’s injuries.

Earlier that day, Porgo had prevented one of the men from stealing a bag from his table on East 149th Street. The man came back with four of his friends to beat the vendor around 5 pm.

A GoFundMe page has been established to raise funds for Porgo, his wife, and his two children. According to the campaign, the vendor is in a coma and has a 50% chance of survival. The page has already raised over $8,000.

“I couldn’t do nothing to help, my daughters were right there,” Porgo’s wife said to the New York Daily News. “I wanted to help but I had the baby, so I couldn’t do nothing.”
