Authorities in Mexico have struck another blow to the Sinaloa Cartel faction headed by recently captured boss Damaso Lopez Nunez, also known as ‘El Licenciado’ after detaining six reputed Sinaloa Cartel figures operating under the direct orders of his son Damaso Lopez Serrano aka ‘El Mini Lic.’

In a released statement, the Mexican Attorney General’s Office said the six suspects were arrested during raids targeting the Los Damaso faction of the Sinaloa Cartel by Mexico’s Criminal Investigative Agency (AIC) along with Army and Marine units in the Xochimilco and Tláhuac areas of Mexico City over the weekend.

According to El Universal, the first operation carried out in the Tlaltenco colony of Tláhuac, resulted in the capture of Benigno Gastélum Sandoval, aka ‘El Beni’ a top lieutenant of ‘El Mini Lic.’

In a second operation in the Xochimilco Colony, federal agents secured the arrests of five individuals identified as: Ramón Arrellanes Almazán, Juan Enrique Rodríguez Acosta, Trinidad Francisco and Jesús Alejandro GarcíaParra, all of whom originate from the state of Sinaloa, along with Jorge Tovar Calleros, alias ‘El Güero’ or El Ingeniero, a native of Jalisco.

Government officials said the five cartel operatives worked as the personal security detail for the young narco-junior.

The actions by Mexican authorities also led to the seizure of various high-powered weapons during the operation including rocket-propelled grenade launchers, military grade assault rifles, and tactical equipment.

In addition to the weapons, agents recovered a significant amount of cocaine, meth, ecstasy and crystallized methamphetamine during the raids.

Lopez Serrano, who is also the godson of Mexican drug lord Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman is believed to have assumed leadership of his father’s Sinaloa Cartel faction following the arrest of ‘El Licenciado,’ who was captured without incident by security forces in Mexico City on May 2nd.

Officials believe ‘El Mini Lic,’ intends to contest the leadership of the Sinaloa Cartel against Ivan Archivaldo and Jesus Alfredo Guzman Salazar, the sons of ‘El Chapo,’ raising fears of a further escalation of violence.

Like the children of ‘El Chapo,’ the younger Damaso Lopez is part of a flamboyant new generation of narco-traffickers who often boasts of their luxurious lifestyles by posting pictures of expensive vehicles exotic pets, beautiful women and stacks cash on social media.
