A South Florida police K9 is expected to recover after being shot in a gun battle where the suspect was killed.

On Friday, police K9 Kasper took a bullet that was aimed at his handler during a gun fight in Palm Beach, Florida. Kasper underwent surgery on Friday.

Authorities pursued 46-year-old Philip Oshea at approximately 4 am Friday after he robbed a bar and carjacked a woman’s vehicle, the Palm Beach Post reported.

Philip Oshea, 46, pictured, was being chased by police early Friday morning after he robbed a bar around 4 a.m.

When officers arrived at the bar, Oshea fled in his car and police followed, leading to two shootouts.

The first shooting occurred during the chase, the second after Oshea smashed his car into a fence.

No officers were struck except Kasper, though one deputy was injured as he ducked for cover.
