Authorities revealed that a man from Colorado, who does not have a medical license, has been taken into custody after he purportedly used an Army surgical kit to castrate a transgender woman at her apartment in Denver.

According to a police affidavit, 57-year-old James Lowell Pennington admitted he surgically cut off the testicles and stitched the opening while the woman’s wife watched the 90-minute illegal operation.

Lowell used an Army surgery kit containing a scalpel, lidocaine, medical dressings, and other medical equipment, in the procedure, KUSA reported.

However, police officials said around three hours after completing the surgery, blood spilled out from the incision site and the wife called 911.

The victim was rushed to Aurora Medical Center. Doctors said the detached testicles could not have been reattached because of the time delay between the procedure and the 911 call.

Additionally, doctors also informed detectives the victim would certainly suffer permanent disfigurement as a result of the botched procedure.

Pennington, who is a licensed pilot, is not a licensed medical professional. He was subsequently taken into custody on Thursday and now faces felony charges including first-degree assault causing serious bodily injury and remains in custody without bond.

The identity of the transgender victim or the victim’s wife has not been released.
