Purported cartel gunmen murdered a municipal police chief in the Mexican border state of Nuevo Leon in what officials are calling a targeted execution.

State authorities said Cesar Daniel Camacho-Rodriguez, the Commander of the San Pedro Municipal Police was executed along with his driver, at a local gas station, mere blocks from City Hall late last week.

San Pedro Garza is part of the greater metropolitan area of Monterrey, the state capital of Nuevo Leon.

Local reports indicated drug cartels had previously threatened Camacho, Breitbart Texas reported.

Surveillance cameras captured the attack which shows the moment armed men in an SUV and a black car pulled up into the service station and opened fire with automatic weapons on Camacho’s vehicle.

A police commander was among two officers executed in Nuevo, Leon, Mexico

The video shows a station attendant, who was pumping gas for the officers diving for cover from the barrage of automatic gunfire.

Municipal and state police officers arrived at the scene within minutes of the attack, but both men died at the scene.

Sources revealed Camacho, who was considered an honest police official had requested protection last year after he had his life threatened by a local drug lord named Eleazar Palomo Castillo, also known as “El Cochi or El 19,” the head of the Beltran Leyva Cartel in the region.

As JammedUp News previously reported, Mexican authorities captured Castillo in the state capital of Nuevo Leon.

The death of the police commander occurs 10 months after his brother Enrique, a former San Pedro police officer who had just been released from a state prison, was murdered in the Colonia Unidad Revolución section of San Pedro.

According to El Manana, gunmen allegedly confused him with César Daniel.

The killing of the two officers comes in the wake of a triple homicide of three men, including the top financial operator for Sinaloa Cartel boss Damaso Lopez Nunez, who was gunned down outside a bar in the affluent Centrito del Valle entertainment district of San Pedro on May 4th.

Law enforcement officials said authorities have identified the license plates of the vehicles used by the suspects in the assassination of Camacho and were also investigating the possibility of a link between both attacks.
