Connecticut Police officials arrested a criminal defense attorney after he was busted buying heroin from a former client he previously defended.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Wallingford Police officials said detectives witnessed defense attorney James McCann buying heroin during a drug transaction from Heather McKee, with whom he had already represented.

Authorities said a search of McKee’s home found 100 bags of heroin and a bag containing about 2.5 grams of the drug.

An investigation by detectives uncovered the 68-year-old McCann had bought 40 bags of heroin from McKee, WFSB reported.

As a result, police arrested McCann who now faces several drug possession charges.

Meanwhile, detectives also charged McKee with several offenses including the sale of narcotics and operating a drug factory.

The attorney secured his release on a $5,000 bail package, while McKee was subsequently released on $50,000 bail.

As of Tuesday, it was not determined whether an attorney is representing either McCann or McKee.

Both suspects are expected to appear back in court on June 20th.

“Cases can take several weeks or months to develop, and through the hard work and determination of our narcotics division were able to bring this matter to the successful resolution that was realized today,” Wallingford Police Chief William Wright said in a released statement.
