Law enforcement officials in Massachusetts announced multiple arrests in connection with a massive drug trafficking enterprise.

Seven suspects in total were taken into custody last week after a probe into a “large-scale” cocaine distribution operation, which included the shipment of narcotics from Texas to Massachusetts, Marian Ryan, the District Attorney for Middlesex, announced.

“As a result of this far-reaching investigation, our office was able to disrupt the drug trafficking enterprise involving the shipment of hundreds of thousands worth of narcotics to Massachusetts,” Ryan stated.

The arrests were carried out as a result of a thorough wiretap probe, headed in part by Massachusetts State Police and Everett police. Ryan said the drugs were being moved to the Middlesex County area, NBC Boston reported.

Ryan added that detectives intercepted a shipment of narcotics on Friday containing about two kilos of cocaine valued at over $100,000. Authorities also confiscated roughly three pounds of marijuana, scales and packaging materials consistent with drug distribution, two guns, nearly 200 grams of a cutting agent, along with $6,000 in cash.

Based on information recovered as a result of the wiretapping probe, Leonel Castaneda was apprehended in Texas on Wednesday. A second defendant was arrested at a residence in Everett. Five additional suspects were arrested in Melrose, Lynn, and Chelsea.

During the investigation, police estimate that the defendants brought in over one dozen packages of alleged narcotics from September 2016 through June 2017.
