A Houston mother facing murder charges in the tragic stabbing death of her 4-year-old daughter reportedly told family members that she had done “something bad.”

Laquita Lewis, 34, has been charged with capital murder after the child, Fredricka Allen, was discovered dead with stab wounds on Sunday at Lewis’ apartment in Houston.

“It’s a horrible situation,” Deputy Thomas Gill of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said.

Earlier that day, Lewis started texting family members saying that she had hurt her child, which led relatives to contact the police.

According to the Houston Chronicle. authorities later responded during a welfare check to the apartment complex and discovered the girl’s body.

Lewis was in the hospital when police made the grisly discovery after she got into an accident at around 6 p.m.

She started texting family about the crime, ultimately confessing to relatives that she had done “something bad” to her daughter.

Detectives are not sure why Lewis murdered her daughter, although it is alleged that she had a domestic dispute with her boyfriend. Deputies are investigating if the incidents are connected.
