A dead man discovered in the trunk of a vehicle in Birmingham has been identified as the popular area rapper Bam Bam Carter.

On Tuesday, the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office distinguished the victim, whose real name is 32-year-old Paul Matthew Carter.

Carter’s remains were found in the early morning hours of June 8th. Birmingham officers and firefighters were dispatched at 3:22 a.m. to a report of a burning vehicle.

When Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service put out the fire, they recovered the body in the trunk, according to Birmingham police Sergeant Bryan Shelton.

The car was parked in an alley and was so damaged that detectives couldn’t ascertain the type or model. The remains of Bam Bam Carter were also unrecognizable, and his identity was determined through dental records, AL.com reported.

Those who knew Carter noticed his car on the news and said he had not been seen for two days before his body was found.

No arrests have been made in Carter’s murder.

Birmingham producer Bennie Hurst said he knew Carter for ten years and helped him put out his first album. “He was a humble guy,” Hurst stated. “One of the nicest, coolest guys I’ve met.”

Carter’s killing has devastated those who knew him. “He was all about helping. It’s eating me up. I can’t even eat. That was my friend,” Ashley Rogers, a friend, said. “I’ve known Bam for 12 years and have never known him to do anything wrong towards anybody.”
