Nevada authorities have identified a man who was shot dead over the weekend at an apartment in Reno as former NFL linebacker Ryan Jones.

Police officials say detectives were interviewing potential witnesses in the shooting death of the 26-year-old former Ravens and Giants linebacker, the Reno Gazette-Journal reported.

Officer arrived on the scene at the 200 block of Talus Way, north of Rancho San Rafael Park around 8:20 pm on Sunday and discovered three male shooting victims.

Jones, who was later identified as one of the victims, reportedly died at the scene. Two other men were treated at a local area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

“We can’t go into details yet because it’s an ongoing investigation, and several people were still being interviewed,” said Reno Police Department spokesman Officer Tim Broadway.

Ryan Jones graduated from Hug High School in Nevada and attended Sierra College before transferring to Montana Tech in 2011 where he played football.

The 6’4 225 pound linebacker last played for the New York Giants in 2015 before embarking on a career in mixed martial arts.

Jones first signed as a rookie free agent for the Baltimore Ravens in 2014.

Rollins Stallworth who coached Ryan Jones in high school described him as a perfect role model for kids.

“We’re all mourning this horrible tragedy and hopefully we can get past this and stay very positive on what Ryan was able to accomplish and pursue in his short lifespan,” Stallworth said.
