Florida traffic stop eads to Miami man’s arrest on drug trafficking charges

A vehicle stop by deputies in Florida resulted in the arrest of a Miami man on drug trafficking charges and the seizure of over 40 pounds of marijuana.

On Tuesday, Ibrahim Makhoul, 24, was pulled over by Collier County Sheriff’s Office deputies while driving a black BMW with illegal tints on I-75.

According to Local10 News, deputies questioned Makhoul and the passenger in the vehicle and concluded that there was probable cause to conduct a search. They attempted to open the truck and center console, but both of them were locked.

When the officers asked Makhoul how to open them, he said he was not sure.

Makhoul asserted that they were already locked when he purchased the car and never tried to open them.

“It’s crazy,” Makhoul said. “I don’t know how they gave me the car like that, with the middle thing shut and the back thing shut.”

Deputies eventually gained access to the center console and discovered a package of marijuana inside. They also unlocked the trunk and recovered two large, plastic bags containing small bags of weed.

Deputies said they also discovered paperwork with Makhoul’s name inside the trunk, even though Makhoul argued that he was never able to open the trunk.

The vehicle’s passenger fled from deputies on foot during the search. He jumped a fence, swam across a canal and ran into nearby woods. Deputies searched for the man, but he managed to get away.

According to deputies, the 43.5 pounds of marijuana seized during the search had an estimated value of $120,000.

Police booked Makhoul on drug trafficking charges in excess of 25 pounds of marijuana. e is being held at Naples Jail Center.

He remains in custody at the Naples Jail Center.
