The cartel operative who has remained in custody since 2015, was also convicted of murder in furtherance of a drug trafficking enterprise, The Associated Press reported.

U.S. law enforcement officials say Millan was the regional Cartel leader in the Mexican border city of Piedras Negras, Mexico, a known Zetas stronghold.

Millan played in major role in the mass atrocities in 2013 perpetrated by the Zetas which resulted in the slaughter of 300 hundred people in Coahuila.

Multiple witnesses detailed on the stand during the trial how Millan colluded with other cartel leaders committed unspeakable acts of violence, including torture, and resulting in the deaths of dozens of people to protect drug smuggling operations.

“El Chano” reportedly took part in the mass atrocities committed by the Zetas Cartel in 2013, which saw the mass murder of hundreds of people in Allende and Pedras Negras

In one instance, a witness testified how Millan forced parents to watch as he brutally dismembered their young daughter as punishment to her father before ordering the parents executed.

Moreover, witnesses detailed how Millan and his Zetas cohorts bribed corrupt local and state officials, including former Coahuila Governor Humberto Moreira.

“I want you to think about her being pinned down by grown men and her parents watching their own child have limbs being hacked from her own body … The only solace these people had was to look down maybe try to pray, and what did he do? Grab their heads and make them watch their daughter suffer,” Assistant U.S. Attorney said during closing arguments.
