A pregnant Minnesota mom fatally shot a 22-year-old man during a fame-pursuing YouTube stunt gone wrong.

As Pedro Ruiz attempted to rack up views and subscribers on YouTube, he told his girlfriend to fire a .50 caliber handgun at a book that he held to his chest- likely believing that the book would catch the bullet.

Police who were responding to reports of gunshots outside of a residence in Halstad pronounced the man dead at the scene, CBS Valley News Live reported.

“I wish they wouldn’t have done it. I wish he would’ve done another prank,” the victim’s aunt, Claudia Ruiz, said.

The couple had recorded and posted YouTube stunts prior, including one where the man’s 20-year-old girlfriend Monalisa Perez served him a donut covered in baby powder.

However, they were hoping that their latest escapade would help them become famous, according to his aunt.

“He told me about an idea. I said, don’t do it,” Claudia Ruiz added. “Why are you going to use a gun? Why? Because we want viewers.”

Perez is the mother of the pair’s 3-year-old and is seven months pregnant with their second baby. She has been charged with reckless discharge of a gun.

“The fact that she has to live with this for the rest of her life is a charge to me,” the aunt added, noting that the baby, which is a boy, will be named after his dad.
