At least six people shot at Bronx Lebanon Hospital

A gunman dressed in a doctor’s coat shot multiple people inside New York City’s Bronx Lebanon Hospital on Friday afternoon.

The NYPD responded in force to reports of an active shooter situation at Bronx Lebanon Hospital around 2:40 p.m. on Friday.

NYPD officials confirmed the gunman, identified as Michael Bello, a former disgruntled doctor at the facility, is dead.

According to NBC4, the suspect, dressed in a white doctor’s type coat, armed with an AR15 assault weapon, shot at least five people, killing at least one victim.

Multiple people were also injured attempting to flee the gunfire.

NYPD officials have confirmed reports of the one fatality.

Police have not released the conditions of the remaining four victims.

At least three of the people shot are believed to be doctors, local media outlets reported.

Investigators are working to determine a motive for the shooting

An active manhunt for the assailant had been underway by members of the NYPD’s most heavily armed units and the hospital has been placed on lockdown.

A staff member at the hospital tells News 4 that police evacuated people floor by floor.

Live television showed the hospital surrounded by police vehicles and fire trucks.
