Two men apprehended in December during a seizure of more than 900 pounds of marijuana in Laredo, Texas have been sentenced in federal court to serve time behind bars on Tuesday.

Samuel Carreon-Hinojosa and Fermin Reyes III pleaded guilty February 7th to charges of conspiring to possess with the intention to distribute.

An indictment filed against the pair back in December accused them of conspiracy to possess, along with possession with intent to distribute 996 pounds of marijuana, The Laredo Morning Times reported.

Fermin Reyes III pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute marijuana back on February 7th

U.S. District Court Judge Marina Garcia Marmolejo dropped the possession charges as part of the defendants’ plea agreements.

Marmolejo sentenced Carreon-Hinojosa to serve 37 months behind bars plus two years of supervised release.

As a special provision, Marmolejo ordered Carreon-Hinojosa not to illegally return to the U.S.

Samuel Carreon-Hinojosa also pleaded guilty on the same day to charges of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute marijuana.

Reyes received 27-months with two years supervision. He is required to complete substance abuse treatment and testing along with completing his GED.

Surveillance of the two men was launched on December 2nd when investigators said they received information about possible drug trafficking at a warehouse.

Officials said they witnessed Reyes and Carreon-Hinojosa at the warehouse with several passenger vehicles leaving the area.

After obtaining consent to search the warehouse, police found multiple marijuana bundles wrapped in clear plastic, foil and powder detergent concealed inside of a box trailer.

Laredo Police seized 996 pounds of pot with an estimated street value of $796,800.

The packages totaled 540 pounds of weed.

A Ford F-150 seen departing from the warehouse was later abandoned.

Laredo police said a search of the car revealed 456 pounds of marijuana.

In sum, LPD seized 996 pounds of marijuana that had an estimated street value of $796,800.

Both Reyes and Carreon-Hinojosa confessed to loading marijuana in cars at the warehouse.
