A married New Jersey middle school teacher is accused of participating in a months-long sexual tryst with her 15-year-old student, whom prosecutors revealed she adopted.

Rayna Culver, 43, was taken into custody in May for second-degree sexual assault and endangerment of a child, South Jersey local News reported.

A criminal complaint revealed that the victim was Culver’s former student at Rivera Middle School in Trenton, and the two were “very close” and would often talk during the school year.

When the 15-year-old teen was kicked out of a family member’s home in 2015, Culver asked the teen to live with her.

In early 2016, she legally became the teen’s guardian. The teen later told police that he believed Culver opened her home to him expecting to “make sex a part of their relationship,” according to court records.

The student was quoted telling investigators that his and Culver’s connection became sexual in June 2016, when she started to fondle him before bedtime, took off his clothes, then moved to perform oral sex on him and have sex with the boy.

“After that incident, they would often engage in sex, and it was to the point where he felt if he told her to stop she would get mad and kick him out,” the complaint stated.

At one point, the 15-year-old reportedly sent the teacher a text saying he no longer wanted to have sex, but she showed a desire to continue with the affair.

The teen told investigators that he and the 43-year-old teacher had sex almost every day over the duration of several months.

In April, the victim gave authorities his phone with texts with Culver, whose number was listed under the name “Mom.”

During their conversations, Culver and the teen conversed about sexual acts.

A search of Culver’s residence back in May recovered two phone, as well as “potential bio fluid.”

Culver’s lawyer dismissed the accusation against his client as “fabricated and made up,” and referred to the accuser as “a troubled young man.”

On May 10th, Culver was arrested at her house in Burlington Township, which she has been living in with her husband of 14 years.

After making her first court appearance, Culver was released on the requirement that she have no contact with the victim or anyone under 18-years-old.
