Authorities have arrested one of Interpol’s most sought-after drug lords known as “La Bestia” or “The Beast” during an operation in Puebla, Mexico.

Minister of the Interior Francisco Rivas announced the capture of Óscar Wilfredo GH, alias “La Bestia,” a Salvadoran capo wanted by Guatemalan authorities for numerous organized crime offenses including the kidnapping of minors to send illegally to the United States.

“La Bestia” was arrested in Puebla as he left a gas station last Thursday, thanks to a collaborative effort involving Mexican and Guatemalan security forces.

Mexican law enforcement officials later identified the suspect as “The Beast,” who is the subject of an arrest warrant by Interpol at the request of the Guatemalan government.

Reports indicate Wilfredo GH was immediately flown to Aurora International Airport in Guatemala, where Interpol agents awaited to transfer him to the courts where criminal proceedings would resume.

In addition to drug trafficking, “The Beast” led a criminal band responsible for overseeing an illicit human trafficking ring involving the kidnapping of minors and the extortion of women in Guatemala.

Óscar Wilfredo was apprehended in Guatemala in June of 2016.

However, the accused capo escaped last May from the Roosevelt Hospital in Guatemala where he underwent an appendix operation.

According to the Guatemalan newspaper, Prensa Libre, “La Bestia” fled through an emergency door after allegedly drugging the custodial staff.
