TUCSON, Ariz. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers discovered a Mexican woman left hanging from the border fence by human smugglers in Arizona last week.

According to a CBP press release, officers found the 37-year-old woman, who had been abandoned by human smugglers, perilously hanging from the international border fence in Nogales.

CBP officials said, agents patrolling the sector east of Nogales witnessed a pair of coyote human smugglers lowering the woman from the fence on the U.S. side of the border using rope and a harness.

As the agents approached, the two suspects fled the scene, leaving the woman suspended 15 feet in the air.

According to the press release, the woman attempted to climb back over the fence to the Mexican side to no avail.

CBP officials had to contact the Nogales Fire Dept. to safely lower the Mexican woman down from the border fence.

Agents took the woman, who was unharmed, into custody. She now faces charges for illegal entry into the United States.
