Linkin Park lead singer Chester Bennington commits suicide

Chester Bennington, the lead singer of the legendary alternative rock band Linkin Park has committed suicide at his residence in Los Angeles County, California.

According to TMZ, police reported to the singer’s home in Palos Verdes Estates just before 9 AM, Thursday morning.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s officials said the County Coroner’s Office had officially ruled Bennington’s death a suicide by hanging.

The gossip website reported that the 41-year-old Linkin Park frontman had for years struggled with addiction to drugs and alcohol.

Additionally, Chester Bennington suffered abuse in his youth by an older male, which prompted him to admit to having suicidal thoughts.

Bennington’s suicide occurs two months after the death of his friend and fellow rocker Chris Cornell, the lead singer for Sound Garden and Audioslave took his own life.

Cornell committed suicide on his 53rd birthday following a performance in Detroit back in May.

Linkin Park had a number of chart topping hits in the past decade including “In the End,” “Crawling,” “Faint,” and also collaborated on several tracks with rapper Jay-Z.

The band’s album “Meteora,” was one of the biggest selling albums in history.

Bennington leaves behind 6 children from 2 separate marriages.
