Nine individuals have been taken into custody after a wide-ranging investigation into a multi-state drug trafficking enterprise based in Tuscon.

The arrests were the result of a joint investigation involving the FBI field office in Chicago along with ICE, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Homeland Security Investigations, Chicago Police, the Arizona Department of Public Safety, and Pima County Sheriff’s Department.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials revealed in a press release that the busts are the most recent developments in the three-year long probe into the multi-state drug trafficking enterprise that operated between Arizona, Nevada, and Illinois.

The Tucson suspects arrested include the purported leader Rene Marcos Vera, 55. Investigators also announced that Raquel Ann Stansberry, 35; Cesar Diaz German, 50; Rosella Maria DeLeon, 58; Richard Andrew Leon, 38; and Rene Marcos Vera II, 22, were also taken into custody.

Agents arrested other suspects in Chicago identified as 31-year-old Tawney Waner, of Las Vegas and 41-year-old Joseph Sorce.

In addition to the arrests, authorities also seized over 85 pounds of cocaine, eight properties worth an estimated $2.5 million, 17 cars, four bank accounts and over $145,000.

The suspects are facing charges including laundering, possessing, producing, and selling drugs, along with identity theft.
