A former Miss Kentucky USA is facing accusations that she attempted to smuggle drugs to a man behind bars in Ohio.

Kentucky Law enforcement officials said when Kia Hampton went to the Allen Correctional Institution back in May, police had already collected sufficient evidence to secure a warrant for a cavity search after listening to multiple recorded calls, according to the Courier-Journal.

Investigators said while being questioned by officers at the prison, Hampton reached into her pants and moved a white balloon containing a marijuana-like substance out onto the ground.

Police later learned that she was attempting to smuggle about 2.82 grams of pot for Jeremy Kelly, an inmate at the Allen County Jail.

The woman was taken into custody the same day and was indicted early this month. The 28-year-old former beauty pageant winner is facing one count of “illegal conveyance of drugs onto the grounds of a governmental facility,” which is a felony punishable by up to three years behind bars.

In 2010, Kia Hampton won the Miss Kentucky USA pageant at the age of 21. She was the first African American to represent Miss Kentucky in the Miss USA Pageant.

She will be arraigned in Allen County Court on July 26th.
