Parents of Obdulia Sanchez speak out

The parents of 18-year-old Obdulia Sanchez who was arrested over a car wreck that resulted in the death ofher 14-year-old sister have spoken publicly about how the incident has ruined their lives.

Sancez is accused of live recording the deadly moment that she crashed her vehicle on Friday, which ejected her younger sister Jacqueline out of the back window.

The teen, who is from California, is also accused of driving while intoxicated during the fatal incident where she recorded her sister’s bloodied body.

The girls’ parents have spoken out about the horrific incident, adding that it ruined their lives and that Obdulia needs help.

Nicandro and Gloria Sanchez, the girls’ parents, are left confused after Friday’s collision in Los Banos that left Obdulia behind bars and her younger sister killed.

Nicandro told ABC7: “I think she doesn’t know what happened. What I think is she knows she’s done something wrong. She feels bad, but she killed her sister.”

The father also added that Obdulia Sanchez had graduated high school last year and she has been in the custody of CPS for the past two years.

Police are continuing to investigate the graphic footage that they say shows the deadly events happening.

They are not sure if Obdulia Sanchez did anything to attempt to save her sister and a police officer revealed that it still is not clear if she called 911.

The live footage that was posted on Instagram shows Obdulia talking as she drives and the moment the car rolled over a barbed wire fence.

Gory footage from the scene then shows Jacqueline’s body on the floor, the other girl in the vehicle shouting for help, as Obdulia continues to talk to the camera.

During the live stream, Obdulia said: “Jacqueline, wake up. I f****** killed my sister. I know I’m going to jail. I love my sister… this is the last thing I thought was going to happen to us. I killed my sister, but I don’t care. I know I’m going to prison, but I don’t care. I’m sorry baby. I’m a hold it down.”

The shocking video ends with her next to her dead sister and saying: “Wake up, I’m f**king sorry baby, I did not mean to kill you sweetie.”

Merced County Sheriff Vern Warnke said Jacqueline was not wearing a seatbelt when the car rolled just before 7 pm on Friday.

The 14-year-old was thrust through the back window of the vehicle.

Another 14-year-old girl, who has been identified as Manuela Seja, also did not have a seatbelt and sustained major leg injuries.

Obdulia Sanchez was wearing a seatbelt and sustained minor injuries.

She is in custody at the Merced County Jail and has been charged with DUI and vehicular manslaughter while under the influence.

Police say she was arrested at the scene after purportedly becoming combative with police after the collision. She was shouting that her sister was dead as police tried to calm her down and bring her into an ambulance.

Investigators indicated that they were informed of the shocking crash video on social media and were working to ascertain if it was real.

However, relatives have confirmed that the footage was recorded by Obdulia.

Jacqueline was supposed to celebrate her Quinceanera on Sunday.

Mary Hernandez who watched the video decided to record it while uncertain if the footage was real.

“At first, we didn’t even want to believe it was real. I recorded it and posted it because as someone who uses Snapchat I see a lot of people driving doing what she was doing, so to me it was an eye opener,” Hernandez stated.

The victim’s family have launched a GoFundMe Page for her funeral expenses. It has so far raised $5,000 of its $10,000 goal.
