Well-known Queens Barber Zanu Simpson gunned down outside bar

Popular New York City celebrity barber Zanu Simpson was fatally shot in the head at point blank on Tuesday as he sat in his SUV — only minutes after he left a bar in Queens, New York by gn-toting assailants.

Simpson was discovered just after 12:00 a.m. inside of his BMW X5. It was parked near the bar where the 32-year-old man was hanging out. He left the bar with no issue but quickly became the victim of what sources described as a robbery gone wrong.

However, ABC7 reported that Simpson may have been targeted in retaliation over recent social media posts. NYPD detectives are combing through social media posts that could have been interpreted as taunts.

A woman who drove by the scene told authorities that a man in a gray hoodie leaned into the driver’s side window of Simpson’s car and punched him repeatedly. She then heard a gunshot as she drove by.

The woman turned around and saw Zanu Simpson slumped over in his seat. Officers said the man w as shot three times in the head.

Police discovered Simpson’s belongings on the street near his vehicle, which included cash, a gold ring, and glasses. A gun, which is believed to be the murder weapon, was also recovered.

The gunman fled and was still pursued on Tuesday, PIX11 reported.

EMS staff rushed Simpson to Jamaica Hospital but he succumbed to his injuries.

Simpson, who worked with his brother at the Strickly Skillz Barbershop, died just before 1 a.m.

“That was my other half,” Samuel Simpson, the victim’s brother, said. “Everybody says we looked alike. They always called us twins.”

Over the past month, thieves have targeted several individuals leaving the Breezes Island Grill.

“We’ve had three or four cases when the victim had cash or jewelry at that bar, and then, later in the night, someone had followed them and robbed them at gunpoint,” the source stated.

A handful of teary-eyed mourners with candles set up a memorial at Strickly Skillz on Tuesday to console each other and pay respects to Simpson.
