Manhunt underway for double murder suspect in Charlotte

Law enforcement officials in North Carolina say a frantic manhunt is underway for a double murder suspect accused of killing two people in Charlotte Thursday morning.

Authorities are searching for 40-year-old Vurnel Smith Jr. after police discovered the body of a man in the trunk of a car.

A seriously injured woman, who managed to drive herself to CNC hospital, initially alerted police that there could be additional victims at the home of Jacqueline Gordon-White.

Police confirmed the victims Rufus Gordon, 69, and Jacquelin Gordon-White, 65.

When Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officers arrived at the residence, they discovered the body of White in the home and the deceased male victim, since identified as 69-year-old Rufus Gordon in the back of the vehicle.

Neighbors told WCNC, both victims are the parents of the woman who survived the attack.

Moreover, neighborhood residents also revealed Smith is the boyfriend of the survivor.
