Rapper Zion I was robbed at gunpoint in West Oakland on Monday along with his film crew during the shooting of a music video.

According to a statement on the hip hop artist’s Facebook page, no one was reported injured during the robbery, but the armed assailants managed to flee the scene with an expensive video recording camera.

Filming for the rapper’s video was underway in Oakland’s Prescott neighborhood when several armed men exited a vehicle and pointed a gun at the cameraman’s head, before taking off with his Red Camera, valued at $90,000 and footage shot for the video, KTVU reported.

In an interview with Complex following the incident, the Oakland-based rapper said that he noticed the suspects driving past an hour before the robbery occurred, but was so focused on the progress of the video shoot and “the good vibe on set that I chose to ignore my intuition.”

The performer said the narrative for the video was to detail the stress attributed to the lack of opportunity for those living in the Bay Area.

“My reason for filming in the heart of West Oakland and the storyline of the video…make it all the more ironic that we ended up being victimized,” the rapper wrote on a GoFundMe Page.

Zion I asked for the community for support to help cover the cost of the insurance deductible for the camera and to fund security for a future re-shoot.

It marks the second time in a week a camera crew was robbed at gunpoint. A film crew was held up at gun point last week during the shooting of a reality T.V. show called “This is Summer,” which chronicles 17-year-old teens growing up in the Bay Area.

The crime rate in the Bay Area has prompted local tv news crews to employ a security guard while reporting on the scene of news worthy events.
