Riveting footage recorded by a GoPro camera captured the chaotic moment Mexican federal and state police engaged in a fierce firefight with over a hundred purported cartel hitmen.

The confrontation occurred last Saturday in the northern state of Chihuahua.

According to El Diario, the intense gun battle erupted after a federal and state police patrol unit came under heavy attack by a massive convoy of cartel hitmen near the town of Madera.

Video of the incident, which spread on social media, was recorded by a GoPro camera mounted on Carlos Alejandro Cruz Rangel, alias “El Ranger,” who is in charge of the Chihuahua state security forces.

“Watch out, down, down, down, save ammunition, conserve ammunition,” the officer is heard shouting while the constant sound of automatic emanates throughout the entire video.

The footage sheds light on how Mexican forces are dealing with the heavily armed criminal cartel elements responsible for much of the violence that has ravaged the country.

Officials said at least one gunman was killed in the shootout and three ex-police officers were among the several cartel hitmen arrested.
