Eight suspects were arrested during a pre-dawn gang sweep in Coachella Valley, California on Thursday morning.

The gang sweep took place at 5:00 a.m. when the Coachella Valley Violent Crime Gang Task Force assisted by teams of local police officers, started executing a series of gang-associated search warrants in Coachella and surrounding locations.

Authorities said the search warrants were served in the homes of the documented gang members, KMIR reported.

Law enforcement officials said the operation is part of an ongoing effort targeting criminal street gangs following a recent spike in gang-related violence and shootings that have taken place within Coachella and surrounding areas.

The probe also included the service of a gang injunction on known gang members and associates, along with probation compliance checks within Coachella Valley. The search warrants resulted in the seizure of four firearms.

All eight suspects remain in the custody of the Indio Riverside County Jail on the following counts:

Robert Cruz, 36, charged with suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia and a probation violation;
Francisco Lopez, 46, charged with suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia;
Roman Martinez, 23, charged with suspicion of possession of a loaded firearm;
Robert Moreno, 33, charged with suspicion of public intoxication;
Cipriano Reyes, 30, charged with suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia and a probation violation;
Elena Torres, 55, charged on a narcotics warrant;
Fabian Torrez, 26, charged with a burglary warrant and for a probation violation; and
Joseph Verdusco, 22, charged with an alleged parole violation.
